Importing Lyrics and Chords

SongBook+ can import lyrics and chords from MP3 files, MIDI files, LRC files, and ChordPro files.

The following pages explain the import process for the various file types. This page contains information that applies to several of them.

info

During import, a PDF file is created, chord annotations are inserted in the song, and the red position pointer is generated and saved. After that, only this saved information is used. If you change the original file or change formatting settings such as font or font size, these changes are not applied automatically. Instead, you must manually trigger the import again for the desired songs.

Font Size

In the settings, you can choose from several font sizes.

Proportional or Non-Proportional Font

In the settings, you can define whether a proportional or non-proportional font should be used during import. In a proportional font, not all letters have the same width. An "I", for example, is much narrower than a "W". In a non-proportional font, all letters have the same width.

Import Chords or Not

Before version 6.6, importing chords depended on whether the proportional font was used or not. They were imported only with a non-proportional font. Now there are two independent settings: "Proportional font for MP3/MIDI/LRC/ChordPro import" and "Import chords". If you do not want to import chords, you can still create larger line spacing so that you can later insert chord symbols manually.

Automatic Import

If a song contains a file with importable text or chords but does not yet have a PDF file with the text, you are asked whether the text should be imported and a PDF file created. This automatic import can also be disabled in the settings.
